WHYGOLF APP: Designing tech to help you suck less
Over the past year and a half, we had the privilege of collaborating with the internal WhyGolf team to bring their app to life. Their mission was to assist golfers in improving their performance on the course by providing a unique set of features and tools.
Guided by Brad Mason, CEO of WhyGolf, and Alan Cheatham, the lead developer, we worked diligently to help WhyGolf bring all the app’s functions to life, from the WhyGolf Academy to the Pro Level paid experience.
The app’s initial focus was on tracking play during a round of golf. The goal was to log shot types, misses, and yardage to build a comprehensive dataset that would help golfers identify areas where they need to focus their attention.
The WhyGolf app integrates AI technology to provide valuable insights and tips on improving specific aspects of the game.
The AI technology is embodied by the WhyGolf mascot, WhysGuy, who serves as your helpful and sometimes irreverent guide on the course. He provides tips, feedback, and tools based on the data you track, and you can even ask him specific golf questions.
The user interface (UI) was designed to be simple, intuitive, and easy to navigate, ensuring that each feature was accessible and user-friendly. The predominantly WhyGolf green palette combines an illustrative approach to hole designs with a technical interface, creating a visually appealing and functional app.
The app complements the range of WhyGolf training aids and features curated how-to videos that cater to different skill levels and help golfers improve their game.
As a former avid golfer, It will be great to have this app with me as I navigate my golfing (in)abilities in my forties. It allows me to maximize my limited time on the range or course by tracking my progress and identifying areas for improvement. Given our location in the Pacific Northwest, where the golf season is short, this app is particularly useful for tracking simulator rounds throughout the year. It offers a convenient and smart tool for golfers to enhance their game.
I can confidently say that I will no longer practice or play golf without this technology. It’s much better than my buddy’s tips on the tee box after I hook a drive into the forest.
Let me know what you think. Download the app and start sucking less at golf. Burns, I promise to get out for some more rounds…
