The Inaugural Season

When USL Spokane approached the BKGD team to create the first professional women's soccer team in Eastern Washington, they wanted something special—something that embodied the power and resilience of women. They aimed for a brand that signified the evolution of women's sports while resonating with the Spokane community. Additionally, they sought a design that would complement the water-themed identity of Spokane Velocity FC.


Inspired by the winds sweeping through the Palouse—symbolizing change—the BKGD team developed Spokane Zephyr FC. This new team stands as a testament to the transformative spirit and strength of women in sports and celebrates the pride of the Eastern Washington region.

The BKGD team conducted extensive brainstorming sessions with USL Spokane. During the early stages of developing the women’s team, they explored various concepts to complement the water-themed Spokane Velocity FC. After considering other water-based ideas and regional historical themes, the power of wind emerged as the clear winner.

The Crest


The crest features a sweeping line pattern in the shape of a "Z," symbolizing the power and movement of wind. This bold mark sits within a unique crest shape, with curved edges on two sides and sharp points on the others, creating a strong, distinctive look.

The Winds of Change Teaser Campaign

A collaborative effort between BKGD Creative, our partner Power Marketing, and USL Spokane utilized a billboard campaign, paid media, and a public event featuring a video reveal. The campaign teased the team name and crest with the slogan, “The Winds of Change Are Coming,” aligning with the “Forces of Nature” theme shared by the two USL teams.
